Why H&H for Flight-Critical Superalloys
Owner’s Note
“Machining Inconel 718 isn’t just about having the right machine—it’s about a thousand small decisions from the fixture to the toolpath. We’ve spent years perfecting that process so our clients don’t have to worry about it.”— Miguel Ramirez, Owner & President
H&H Machining Center builds to print for aerospace, defense, and space programs that cannot miss. Our Santa Clarita, CA facility combines 3–5‑axis milling with 2–6‑axis turning / mill‑turn to hit ±0.0005″ typical (down to ±0.000.0002″ on qualifying features) with full material traceability, AS9102 FAI, and SPC. We are ITAR‑registered for export‑controlled technical data and maintain secure handling throughout the job lifecycle.
Core metrics: 99.7% first‑pass inspection • 99.2% on‑time delivery (multi‑year performance)
Capabilities at a Glance
Turning & Mill-Turn: Up to 6 axes with live tooling, Y-axis, and sub-spindle for complete parts in a single setup with tight datum control. Our Doosan PUMA 2600SY II CNC machines deliver stable throughput in Incon💈 Milling (3–5 Axes): 3‑ to 5‑axis CNC milling; complex surfacing and contouring; probing for datum retention.
📏 Typical Tolerances: ±0.0005″ across datums; down to ±0.0002″ on select features.
✨ Surface Finish: 16‑32 µin Ra typical on critical faces.
📦 Lot Sizes: Prototype to production (Kanban, blanket orders, dock‑to‑stock).
🗂️ Docs: AS9102 FAI, FAIR packages, PPAP level on request, full CoC & heat lot traceability.
Inconel 718 Machining — Our Specialty
Why it’s hard: precipitation‑hardened Ni‑Cr superalloy with severe work‑hardening, low thermal conductivity, and high shear strength.
How we solve it: Application‑specific toolpaths to minimize radial engagement and heat input. Rigid workholding and balanced fixtures for thin‑wall and bushing geometries. High‑pressure coolant, chip evacuation, and monitored tool wear strategies. Qualified cutters, edge prep, and adaptive feeds to extend tool life.
Representative Inconel 718 components: flanges, ring gimbals, rod ends, body links, clevis hardware, and engine‑interface features.
Result: stable cycle times, predictable surface integrity, and repeatable first‑pass acceptance on serial lots.
